It all started back in 2009…
I started MilkMade out of my desire for a better pint. After years of buying a pint a night from my local bodega, I was left increasingly unsatisfied. Pints had shrunk, the ice cream was no longer natural, and flavors were not exciting anymore.
So I took matters into my own hands. In the summer of 2009, I bought a small home ice cream machine, got in touch with local farms, and started crafting my "dream 'screams" – ice cream flavors that I had only dreamed about. Like any good secret, word got out. Stories were published, a waitlist sprang up, and I quickly realized I wasn’t the only one who wanted a better pint.
MilkMade officially launched a few months later, in December of 2009, pioneering the New York food movement, defining the craft ice cream market, and building the first model for food subscription services. With the help of the Milkmaids, I slowly grew the Membership, expanding our ice cream delivery service neighborhood by neighborhood in NYC, eventually serving thousands of Members across the country. We opened a scoop shop in front of our factory in Brooklyn which ran from 2015-2019.
Meet Diana
Diana is a chef, entrepreneur, activist, and mom of two based in Los Angeles. Diana began her entrepreneurial journey in 2009 when she started MilkMade Ice Cream in New York City as an artisanal ice cream of the month club. She was a pioneer in the craft food movement, an advocate in her local foodshed, and built the the first business model for a food subscription and delivery service. Since closing the doors to Milkmade’s Brooklyn-based scoop shop and dairy plant in 2019, Diana has expanded Milkmade’s mission to deliver exceptional ice cream by way of local catering in Los Angeles, ice cream making classes, and sharing recipes with her online community.
Diana is also an advocate for stroke awareness and prevention. After surviving and fully recovering from two strokes in her early 30s while also operating MilkMade, Diana is actively involved in stroke advocacy, focusing on raising stroke awareness and prevention primarily for young women.
When not in the kitchen, Diana is always out in the great outdoors, camera in hand, creating adventures with her two small children.
